Equipments
As stated earlier, the biotechnology department has nine laboratories and a common instrumentation facility. They are all sufficiently equipped with varied instruments and all of these labs were commissioned at least two months before the commencement of the corresponding practical courses. Besides the nine laboratories that are established in the Biotechnology block, the B.Tech Biotechnology course has two more labs - Computer programming and Fluid mechanics labs. These two labs are common facilities as students from other B.Tech programmes too use them for their course works.
Capital investments made on major equipments during the initial establishment of the nine laboratories account for Rs. 30,40,400/-. Additional procurement of instruments to various labs was for Rs. 1,84,831/- and together they account for Rs. 32.25 lakhs (expenditure incurred for the organic chemistry lab not included).
As is evident from the graphical representation, there have been periodic capital investments on equipments over the years for the establishment of various lab facilities. This does not include expenditures made on fluid mechanics and Computer programming labs as they are shared by students from other B.Tech programmes also.
Departmental Library
The department library in the biotechnology department started functioning during the academic year 2006-07. It has about 211 titles. This includes all the major text books for the various papers of different batches of B. Tech Biotechnology. There are many reference books also in this collection of books. This facility is situated in a separate room (26.07 Sq. M). In order to increase the scope of its usage, a reading room facility is also attached to the departmental library.
