Bio Technology Projects
Projects for final year students are allotted as per the interest exhibited by individual students (after having sufficient consultations with the faculties) to specialize into specific biotechnology areas. Those students who could not arrive at any specific project work are advised to speak to the various faculty members of the department in order to settle with suitable viable individual or group projects. In case of group projects, it is insisted that the group size should be 2-3 only. Many interactive sessions on the requirements, modalities and nature of B. Tech Biotechnology projects and research works in general are conducted during second semester of 3rd year itself. This is essentially to facilitate the student to get ideally prepared for arriving at appropriate selection of the projects and to chart out plans regarding the execution of the experimental works.
Students are also provided with sufficient inputs for pursuing projects in their preferred specializations at specific institutions of repute. They are provided with information and guidelines for seeking permission to do projects in R&D labs or production houses all across the country. Guidance on the nature of fellowships available for summer projects which are funded by national agencies like Indian Academy of Science are provided to the students and they are further encouraged to complete the assignment (experimentation part) at campuses of national and international repute. Such off-campus works are carried out during their 3rd year vacations itself.
In case the students opt for doing project works at ANITS, then they are provided with all supports including guidance from among the faculties, lab space, equipments, consumables etc. Guides are assigned to such students based on the areas of specialization of the teachers and the area of work chosen by the students. Students interested in pursuing projects at industrial units are encouraged to have internal guides from the department who monitor the progress of the project through discussions with the students and external guide at regular intervals.
Students are generally prompted to analyze the experimental results with the concerned guides and/or internal guides and all of them need to participate in the internal presentation of the works and viva. For result analysis, commercially available software like Statistica, MATLAB etc are provided to the students. Review meetings are held to asses the progress of the different project works and an abstract book of all works of students for any academic year are made available in the departmental library. A formal internal evaluation of the project works is also carried out by prompting the students to go for a power point presentation of their works. Regarding the evaluation of the different project works (internal marks), guides/ internal guides are advised to provide 50% of the marks while the other 50 % marks are awarded by a committee constituted for this propose. This committee invariably is constituted incorporating the concerned guide/ internal guide, a senior faculty member of the department and HOD. The external evaluation of the projects is separately carried out by the university.
